The turnout for the Newcastle United’s Women’s team was the best attendance for any division in the English Women’s game this season. Around 22,000 fans and even Amanda Staveley took to St James’ Park to attend the game. Forward Callum Wilson believes that show of support is the reason why the club is so great.

On the ‘Footballer’s Football Podcast‘, Wilson explained that some fans are what makes the club so special.

“Newcastle fans are the best. They support the men and the women. 22,000 fans to watch women’s football, which is up and coming.” Wilson stated.

“It’s a tier four game, so it’s not even the women’s Premier League, and you have that many people there on a Sunday afternoon. I think it’s amazing for the women’s game, it’s evolving and forever changing. The Geordies are leading the way!

“They even had the flags out, and everything like that. If I was up in Newcastle and had a day off I would have been there myself, but I see even one of the owners was there, so it just shows how far the game is coming for them and they are moving in the right direction. Howay the lasses!”

The new ownership won’t just benefit Newcastle’s men’s team but the women’s side too

Since the arrival of PIF on Tyneside, the support has been immense. Callum Wilson has seen it firsthand when he’s stepped foot into St James’ Park.

Now the Newcastle United Women are feeling that support too. At the moment they might not be in one of the top leagues in England. However, they clearly have the fanbase to kickstart a surge up the league.

With the owners willing to invest in the club, the ladies would reap the rewards too. You can clearly see the passion Amanda Staveley has as she was pictured having a kickabout after the game.

As for the men’s team, Newcastle feels rejuvenated. They’ve surged up the league table in 2022 and are now pushing for a place in the top ten.

Furthermore, when you take into consideration they were in the bottom three when they and Eddie Howe arrived, it makes it that much more impressive.

Wilson will be looking to make an impact. He posted recently on social media that he’s back soon from injury. The host of the ‘Footballer’s Football Podcast’ will look to add to his goal tally before the season ends.

The situation for the Magpies seems to be a lot brighter. The Newcastle Women’s team will have their sites set on climbing up the leagues in the near future with the big support behind them.
