Italian media have claimed that one Newcastle United player was the worst on the pitch against AC Milan last night.
It was a disappointing night all round for Newcastle who led the game in the first half but ultimately came crashing out of the Champions League thanks to two second-half goals from Milan.
Dan Burn made a return for the game earlier than expected, but Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that the Newcastle defender was the worst player on the pitch last night.
Burn treated harshly by Italian media after performance against Milan
Burn only played a part in this game for the last half-an-hour after coming off the bench in the second half for Kieran Trippier who looked like he could be struggling with an injury.
Burn didn’t excel in the game or show any real positive threat either defensively or on the attack, but it feels somewhat harsh to claim he was the worst player on the pitch.
That said, the £13m signing was susceptible to a Milan counter-attack and did get caught out by Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze who scored the second goal for the Italians and knocked Newcastle out of the Europa League position.
The Italian media clearly found this to be the biggest moment in the match and therefore criticised the 31-year-old for his poor defending to keep his team in Europe.

Burn may still be ahead of Hall for Newcastle
With Trippier picking up a possible knock and being suspended for the game against Fulham on Saturday, Eddie Howe now has a difficult selection to make for the starting 11.
Tino Livramento will be expected to move across to the right-back position, his natural position, but it’s still unclear who Howe will pick to be the left-back.
Lewis Hall has played a handful of games and showed some positive qualities in those appearances, but Burn was thrown back into the team against Milan as soon as there was a possibility of him being available.
It would suggest that Howe doesn’t fully trust Hall to play significant minutes in a game just yet, but with Burn only just recovering from his injury it may be a risk for him to play a full 90 minutes.
