Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden has hailed former England international Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere has given an open and honest interview with the Athletic talking about being out of contract.

Wilshere is still just 29, and with 182 Premier League appearances, he should be coming into his prime now.

But he finds himself without a club and Hayden has offered some support on Twitter.

Hayden and Wilshere were together at Arsenal. Wilshere was tipped as the next big thing but injuries have curtailed his career.

Would he be a good signing for Newcastle?

Newcastle could do with a new central midfielder before the transfer window slams shut.

Wilshere’s free agent status would appeal to Mike Ashley financially, no doubt.

He has quality and says he remained fit all season at Bournemouth last term.

It would be a risk with his injury record but Wilshere should still be an asset in the top flight if anyone would take him.

That said, he revealed in his interview that he wants his next move to be abroad because of the damage his reputation has taken in England because of his fitness issues.

And Newcastle are probably looking elsewhere, but Wilshere will hope this interview puts him in the shop window.
