Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has posted a message on social media which highlights his yearning to return to full fitness.

Eddie Howe stated earlier this month that he has taken a risk by including Wilson in Newcastle’s 25-man squad after revealing the striker’s injury will keep him out until the ‘last few games’ of the season.

The 29-year-old spoke of his surprise that the Magpies did not sign another forward during the January transfer window.

Newcastle’s number nine is struggling with calf and Achilles injury issues after picking up the problem against Manchester United on 27 December.

Since joining Newcastle from Bournemouth in September 2020, the England international has picked up thigh, hamstring and calf muscle injuries.

Despite missing nine Premier League games so far this season, Wilson is still Newcastle’s top goalscorer with six goals.

Craving a return to action and full fitness, Wilson posted a short and snappy message on Instagram which highlights his frustration as he battle injuries.

January signing Chris Wood is yet to open his Newcastle account with no goals from his first five matches at the club.

The concern for Wilson and Wood will be that PIF will look to bring a household striker to St James’ Park in the summer, as the club embarks on the next phase of their ambitious project.

There is no denying when Wilson is fit and available he has an impressive goalscoring record for the Geordies.

In 43 matches for the Toon Army, Wilson has 18 goals and five assists to his name.

The noise coming out of the Newcastle camp indicates there is a chance that Wilson might not feature again this season.

But Callum Wilson’s social media shows how desperate he is to get back playing and help his teammates in the relegation battle as soon as possible.
