Lucas Hernandez has admitted that he can’t quite believe PSG didn’t beat Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League.
The French defender started at left-back for Luis Enrique’s side as the hosts had to wait until the 98th minute to finally break Newcastle down via a controversial penalty.
Whilst the Magpies should have come away with a win given the nature of PSG’s sole goal in the fixture, there’s no denying that the Pariaisn side were unlucky on the night.

Nick Pope had the game of his life as stated by Jermaine Jenas, and Newcastle were lucky that the footballing gods were on their side last night.
And speaking to PSG’s official website, Hernandez was amazed his side didn’t win. The defender said: “It was an incredible match. In games like this, you come back into the dressing room and think ‘How is it possible not to have won this game?’
“We had so many chances, but that’s part of the game, that’s part of football. Sometimes the ball just doesn’t want to go in, these are nights like that, like today.”
Lucas Hernandez knows that Newcastle were lucky vs PSG

it will go down as one of the craziest games of the Champions League this season, with PSG’s late penalty a dark stain that has led to plenty of talking points already.
Yet whilst Newcastle fans might not want to admit it, Hernandez is right when he says that the Parisian side will question how they didn’t score in open play last night.
The stats speak for themself, with Newcastle doing remarkably well with the few chances they have as PSG continued to waste shot after shot over the course of the match.
Indeed, the hosts could have done better in the quality of their shots, and Hernandez is right to question how PSG only managed one goal on the night against the Toon.
