Newcastle United came minutes away from a famous victory against PSG, and Nick Pope would have been hailed as a hero for the Toon.

The England international was simply incredible in Paris last night as Pope saved everything and anything before Kylian Mbappe’s controversial penalty rescued a dramatic point for PSG.

Tipped beforehand by Perry Groves to perform on the night, Pope delivered and then some for Newcastle, and speaking to TNT Sports, Jermaine Jenas thinks the Newcastle star had the game of his life.

Although Newcastle were close to a win, a fair point should be made that PSG were on it all match, with Pope doing everything humanly possible to deny the French champions any sort of hope.

Indeed, it was one of the all-time great Newcastle performances from Pope, and Jenas was full of praise for the £10m shot-stopper at full-time in Paris.

Jenas said: “I mean it was unreal, wasn’t it? I mean Nick Pope’s arguably had the game of his life on one of the biggest stages that he can do it. Everything that was kind of coming his way, he just saved everything.”

PSG performance could have made Nick Pope a Newcastle cult hero

Whilst a win just wasn’t on for Newcastle, Pope’s performance shouldn’t be forgotten about anytime soon, with the England international simply brilliant against PSG.

It’s a display that Magpie fans won’t be forgetting about anytime soon, and for Pope, it will be hard to think of a better game the goalkeeper has experienced in his already impressive career.

Three points would have been on the cherry on top of the cake, yet with VAR again playing it’s wicked hand, Newcastle will have to settle for just the draw in Paris.

Yet for Pope, there’s little the Newcastle goalkeeper could have done, though the former Burnley man should reap the praise that’s bound to come his way in the coming days.
