Newcastle United have finally announced that midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has signed a new long-term contract, in what has been an excellent week for the club.

Newcastle fans are currently on cloud nine having beaten Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday, and this announcement is the icing on the cake.

Bruno joined the club in January 2022, and has been a revelation in the middle of the park. He has now signed an extension, which has delighted Eddie Howe.

Eddie Howe happy with Bruno contract

Speaking to Newcastle club media, Howe praised the 25-year-old for his impact since he joined, and expressed his delight at the new deal for him.

“I’m delighted to get Bruno signed and committed to the long-term future of the football club. He’s such an important player and he’s done so well since he joined the club. He’s been a huge success since he’s been here so I just hope that he can continue in that vein and carry on his success with us.

“I think he epitomises the recent success we’ve had. He’s put in so many good displays, he’s very consistent and he’s got a great personality off the pitch as well.

“He cares very deeply about Newcastle United and the success of the club and he’s got a great relationship with our supporters.

“He’s been a key signing for us – definitely the type of signing that we want to make.”

Howe’s comments about Bruno being a key signing that Newcastle want to replicate could not be more true.

Bruno arrived for around £40m, a fee which now looks a bargain compared to deals for other midfielders this summer, and has been a revelation in both quality and attitude.

His age also means that he could be around for the long-term, and he has been arguably the best signing the club has made since Howe came in.

Although Arsenal were also reportedly interested, Newcastle had a near free run for Bruno’s signature, and outsmarting the market is something that the club may hope to do more when it comes to signing under-the-radar players, with Anthony Gordon now looking like the next smart buy to justify their fee.
