Newcastle United have had so many incredible strikers over the years, from Alan Shearer to Jackie Milburn.
Now it is Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak leading the line for Newcastle, with Eddie Howe boasting two top class forwards who love scoring goals. They have both started the new season brightly, scoring seven goals each so far.
It is Wilson who currently has the honour of being Newcastle’s number nine, which is the club’s most famous shirt. He took it off Joelinton, who was never a good fit for the jersey and now looks so much more comfortable in black and white.
The number nine shirt is not for every player, but one man who wishes he had the honour of wearing it during his career is Peter Crouch.
Peter Crouch on playing for Newcastle
On the latest episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Crouch admitted that he would have loved to play for Newcastle during his career.
“It’s one of those clubs where I wanted to play there,” he said.
“Imagine being the number nine at Newcastle. If you’d have done well and scored there, they would just love you.
“When you speak to Jermaine Jenas and Titus Bramble, players who I know well, and players who have been up there. They just love playing there. Even then it was probably a difficult time.
“Imagine being up there now with the Champions League.”

Newcastle are becoming even more appealing
Crouch played for a lot of Premier League clubs during his career, but never made the move to St James’ Park. However, he certainly wishes that he had!
The 42-year-old played against the Magpies 27 times in his career, finding the net on six occasions, three of which came at St James’ Park.
It is interesting to hear how much Crouch would have loved to have played for Newcastle, and it just shows how appealing the club is – especially for a goalscorer. If you know how to put the ball in the back of the net, you are treated like royalty on Tyneside.
Crouch also admitted that playing for Newcastle is now even more appealing than it was during his playing days, as the Magpies go from strength to strength under Eddie Howe.
And he’s right. The club have been able to attract big names to St James’ Park, and they have massively helped United grow. In turn, that will lead to more big names wanting to join – especially after witnessing Champions League nights in the North East.
For Crouch, the only time he gets to visit Newcastle now is as a pundit, but he really wishes he had the chance to wear the famous black and white stripes during his career.
