‘I think they will’… Chris Sutton predicts who will win on Saturday – Newcastle or Manchester United

After a heartbreaking Champions League draw with Paris Saint-Germain, Chris Sutton expects Newcastle United to bounce back against Manchester United on Saturday night.

The big games keep coming for Newcastle, who welcome Man United to St James’ Park for a huge match underneath the lights on Tyneside.

It could be a perfect storm for Eddie Howe’s side. They will be full of confidence after their emphatic 4-1 win over Chelsea, while the fans will be angry after the incredible injustice in Paris on Tuesday night.

As for Man United, they also drew in Europe during the week, but it was a very different story. They squandered a two-goal lead against Galatasaray, with Andre Onana’s errors proving to be costly.

Newcastle vs Man United is always a big game, and a real rivalry between the two sides is bubbling away once again after what Erik Ten Hag said about the Magpies last season.

We have already beaten them once this season in the Carabao Cup, and Howe will be desperate to put the Dutchman in his place yet again.

And BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton thinks he will do exactly that.

Chris Sutton thinks Newcastle will beat Manchester United

As part of his Premier League predictions for BBC Sport, Chris Sutton has backed Newcastle to beat Man United 3-1 on Saturday night.

“Manchester United did some good things going forward against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday, but they also did some bad things at the back,” he said.

“Newcastle United will feel hard done by after the way they lost to Paris St-Germain on Tuesday and I think we’ll see a strong performance from them back at St James’ Park.

“Eddie Howe’s side hammered Chelsea at home last weekend and I think they will overrun Manchester United too. This could be a difficult evening for Erik ten Hag, and the end of his side’s run of good results in the league.”

That would be an amazing end to a tough week for Newcastle

A 3-1 win over Man United on Saturday night would be absolutely perfect. It would also mean we end the week unbeaten, despite playing three of European football’s juggernauts.

In fact, it would make the PSG draw even more difficult to stomach, as if that penalty hadn’t been given we would have won that game. Then it would have been three wins from three.

But given all of our injuries and the calibre of opponents, it would be a huge shock if Howe can orchestrate another victory on Saturday night.

It is going to be very difficult, as his side gave everything in Paris. The 11 players he picked played the full game, and will likely be asked to start again on Saturday night.

This time they will be backed by a raucous St James’ Park crowd underneath the floodlights, against a Man United side that has accumulated a lot of points but failed to deliver consistent performances.

It should be a brilliant game, and it is one that Chris Sutton thinks Newcastle will win.
