A staggering number of supporters have queued online to buy a Newcastle United season ticket.
The club announced last week that they would be selling an additional number of tickets for the 2022/23 campaign, after an ‘unprecedented level of renewals from existing season ticket holders‘.
The Chronicle then reported that the Magpies would only be selling an extra 1,000 tickets, which would take the number of current season ticket holders to around 30,000.
Only supporters with a recent purchase history are eligible for a ticket, which was bad news for the fans who gave up their seat in the years, months and days prior to July 2019.

However, it was impossible for the Toon owners to please everyone. The demand for tickets has been incredible since the change of ownership, and that has been proven by the number of people queuing for season tickets.
Incredible demand for Newcastle season tickets
Around 30,000 supporters have been in the online queue. The screenshot below shows the number at 29,258 seven minutes after the tickets became available.

It’s no real surprise to see this many people trying to get a ticket. However, it’s incredible to physically see that number in black and white.
It highlights the incredible desire for supporters to be inside St James’ Park. It sums up the renewed passion the fans have for the club, after being starved of ambition and hope under Mike Ashley.

In 2019, the club actually had to give tickets away for free to fill the ground. 10,000 seats were made available for absolutely nothing.
Now the club are having to turn more than that amount of people away.
St James’ Park is going to be rocking next season, and the fans who didn’t get season tickets will be scrambling on a game-by-game basis to get inside the ground.
Newcastle have one of the biggest stadiums in the country, but it isn’t big enough anymore. An expansion might be necessary in the near future to keep up with the obscene demand for tickets.
