Less than a year after he got the job, Eddie Howe has signed a new Newcastle United contract.
The news broke on Friday afternoon on the eve of the new Premier League season. The club confirmed that Howe has signed a new long-term contract at St James’ Park, following an exceptional start to life as manager.
It was reported earlier in the summer that this might happen, and the rumours are true. Now Newcastle have secured Howe’s future for longer after he initially signed until 2024.
The decision will delight Toon fans and players, such has been the impact of Howe. He guided us to safety with ease last season, and has played a key role in improving so many Newcastle players.
Howe is now set to begin his first full season as Toon boss, and it is the first full season under the new ownership as well.
And while only three new signings have arrived so far, the consortium have had a wonderful summer that will shape the future of Newcastle United.
Newcastle set for success with Howe, Ashworth and Eales
Shortly after Amanda Staveley and co took over, they were criticised for how they were approaching matters.
They sacked Steve Bruce and brought in Howe before appointing a CEO or a Sporting Director. The owners were accused of doing things backwards.
Fast forward to the present day, and Newcastle now have three figures in prominent positions calling the shots.
Howe has proven himself as manager and already earned a new long-term contract. He is bringing success on the pitch.
Then there’s Dan Ashworth, who arrived as Sporting Director in June. Securing his services from Brighton was a huge moment in Newcastle’s history, as he is someone who can really transform the long-term culture of the club. There’s a reason why he is so well respected in football.
The Magpies have also appointed a new CEO to replace Lee Charnley, with Darren Eales set to occupy the hot seat. He arrives from Atlanta United, where he did a brilliant job commercially of creating a club identity and brand.
Newcastle now have three incredibly talented people in three very senior roles within the club. Good things come in threes, and that is exactly what has happened this summer.
Ashworth arrived, Eales was appointed, and now Howe has extended his contract. The future is very bright for Newcastle United with these three men at the forefront.
