It probably has not escaped your attention that Newcastle are up to 14th after beating Brentford 2-0 on their own patch at the weekend.
Two days later, Steve Bruce’s West Brom went down 2-0 at home to Swansea and now sit 13th in the second tier and that is the division Newcastle were destined for under Bruce.
Perhaps some fans think that Newcastle supporters should forget about Bruce now; he is part of the club’s past and the future is far more exciting with Eddie Howe at the helm.
But as February turns into March, it is perhaps looking back at what the situation was like at St James’ Park this time last year.

On February 27 2021, Newcastle drew 1-1 with Wolves to leave themselves 17th in the Premier League, four points clear of the drop zone but having played a game more than Fulham below.
As of now, Howe has Newcastle flying higher than they were a year ago under Bruce, having played a match less (25 to 26 last year).
It is already looking like Newcastle will be safe and they have positive momentum, as opposed to treading water and trying not to circle the drain.

The difference in the space of a few months is staggering but taking a look back at the last 12 months also makes it clear how much has changed.
Newcastle are now getting impressive results without some of their best players fit and the mood around the club is completely different.
If Newcastle draw their next game, they will match last season’s points tally after 26 games, meaning a win would obviously beat it by two.
