'Howay the lads': TalkSPORT pundit publicly declares he's cheering on Newcastle tonight

Jamie O’Hara has publicly proclaimed that he is supporting Newcastle United tonight against Arsenal. This will come as no surprise that O’Hara is backing Newcastle, due to his links with Tottenham Hotspur in his career.

In an attempt to wind up host Laura Woods on ‘talkSPORT Breakfast‘ (who is an Arsenal fan), he stated “Right! Newcastle come on! This is the one, show us you’re a big club, show us you belong amongst the elite.” O’Hara said.

“Howay the lads! Make it happen, do it for Spurs! And do it for football.”

In addition to the rivalry between the two sides, both clubs are battling for a spot in the top four. So a Toon victory would put Spurs in the driving seat.

O’Hara backing us is a nice gesture, but Newcastle couldn’t care less about the race for the top four

Some fans will have absolutely no interest in doing Spurs a favour. The Magpies will obviously want to win, but not due to any strong dislike of Arsenal or love for Tottenham. The fact that O’Hara is backing Newcastle will not change anything.

It’s Newcastle’s last home game of the season. The crowd will be out in full force to cheer on Eddie Howe and his side. So Newcastle vs Arsenal might not have much on the line for the Toon, but it’s the chance to celebrate a campaign which went from miserable to incredibly optimistic.

In Newcastle’s last home game of the season, we could see the return of Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier to the starting XI. The duo made their return in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City. Wilson even had a couple of decent chances to find the net.

Considering the wonderful job Eddie Howe has done this season, the fans will want to give him the appreciation he deserves. A win tonight against Arsenal would be an amazing way to end this season at St James’ Park.
