Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak was named in the starting lineup for Sweden for their Nations League clash against Estonia on Sunday evening.
Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side were comfortable 3-0 winners on the night to take Sweden to the top of their Nations League group in League C.
The headlines around the match have been focused on Sweden’s deadly striker partnership involving Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak.
Both were on the scoresheet against Estonia, with Gyokeres scoring either side of Isak’s close-range finish in the 40th minute.
Isak was then taken off by Dahl Tomasson with 10 minutes to go, and he is now set to return to Tyneside ahead of the Premier League being resumed.

Alexander Isak on international duty
After opening his goalscoring account in the Premier League against Tottenham last Sunday, Isak has enjoyed a superb week away with his national team.
Isak scored twice against Azerbaijan on Thursday and received glowing reviews from the Swedish media, and he added to his goal tally against Estonia – all while avoiding injury.
He now has a full week to rest before Newcastle United’s league campaign resumes with a trip to Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
Isak should return full of confidence and momentum and hopefully his goalscoring form for Sweden can carry over into his club football.
Swedish media react to Alexander Isak vs Estonia
In Gyokeres and Isak – with Dejan Kulusevksi and Anthony Elanga in support – Sweden have one of the best attacking lineups on the continent.
They showed what they are capable of with an emphatic performance against Estonia, and the Swedish media have now given their verdict on Isak’s performance.
Swedish outlet SvenskaFans gave Isak a 4/5 rating – the highest in the team alongside Gyokeres.
They added: “Like his attacking partner, he does as little as he wants. Sometimes it felt as if he could have seven or eight if he only wanted to”.
Fotbollskanalen added to the praise, giving Isak a “good” rating alongside Gyokeres, Kulusevski and Viktor Johansson.
They said Isak “was one of the decisive players. Nice finish when he made it 2-0. Then a very nice pass to Kulusevski who assisted for 3-0.
AftonBladet picked out Isak and Gyokeres for praise, suggesting they “were quick to steal the show and the limelight”.
