Newcastle United fans are suddenly very concerned about the prospect of St James’ Park being expanded.
Ever since the change of ownership at Newcastle United, the clamour for tickets has intensified.
St James’ Park is full every time the Magpies play at home, with thousands of fans unable to get inside the ground despite their desperation.
With renewed hope and a team that is excelling on the pitch, the demand to watch Eddie Howe’s side is absolutely massive.
That has led to speculation that the owners could look into the possibility of expanding St James’ Park and increasing its capacity. However, that is always going to be difficult given where the ground is situated.
The club are looking into every possibility, and that includes building a completely new stadium. That option came up during a survey this week, as the club canvassed opinion from fans on the possibility of relocating to a different location.
Based on social media, the reaction has been largely unanimous. Fans do not want to leave St James’ Park, with many concerned about the corporate direction the club could be heading in.
However, a new update from iNews should ease some fans’ concerns regarding the future of our cathedral on the hill.

Newcastle owners would prefer to expand St James’ Park
According to iNews, the club’s preferred option is to expand St James’ Park and increase its capacity, rather than build a new stadium that is much bigger.
That is certainly good news, despite the recent survey. There has been a lot of fan outrage about what was asked, but it was likely just a case of the club asking about any and every possibility to get a clear view of what the supporters do and do not want.
The owners have previously expressed their desire to stay at St James’ Park. Mehrdad Ghodoussi said as much in an interview, and he would be wise to live by his convictions.
The clamour for tickets will see fans do whatever it takes to watch Newcastle, but that should not come at the price of our history. St James’ Park is where Newcastle United belongs, and it should remain that way no matter how successful we may become.
If the club do push for a new stadium, you have to imagine there will be a real backlash from supporters. However, given the reaction to the recent survey, you have to hope that option is now completely off the table.
