Newcastle United will need to address Sandro Tonali’s contractual status sooner rather than later.

At the end of the season, Tonali will have only two years left on the contract he signed at Newcastle United in the summer of 2023.

The Italian has emerged as one of the club’s most important players and the idea of losing him a summer after Alexander Isak’s messy departure is concerning.

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle want to offer Tonali a new contract amid constant suggestions from the Italian media that he could return to Serie A.

Now, some insight into his thoughts on the matter has emerged.

Sandro Tonali loyal to Newcastle United right now

Indeed, according to iNews, Tonali and his representatives value the loyalty that the club showed towards him during his ten-month ban from football for breaching betting rules.

As such, the club are hopeful that a fresh agreement can be reached.

The report also suggests that any deal for the likes of Tonali, Tino Livramento or Sven Botman would almost certainly include a release clause.

Go time for Newcastle United over Sandro Tonali talks

Newcastle didn’t hold talks with Tonali over a new contract as they did not have a sporting director, although that has now changed.

Earlier this month, Newcastle confirmed the appointment of Ross Wilson as the club’s new sporting director.

Obviously, Wilson is only just through the door but talks with the likes of Tonali surely have to be a priority.

It’s clearly a complicated situation and Newcastle’s wage structure is below what other top teams pay their players.

However, given the toxicity of the Isak situation, the club can ill-afford to leave themselves open to another top player wanting to leave.

Hopefully, the club can reach an agreement with Tonali as quickly as possible.
