Newcastle United have been without Lewis Miley since March.
The 2023/24 season was a breakthrough year for Lewis Miley, with the teenage midfielder becoming an important player in the Newcastle United midfield.
Injury and suspension handed the youngster an opportunity, and he grabbed it with both hands. It was amazing to see Miley do so well for his boyhood club, and getting the chance to play for the Magpies in the Champions League.
Miley proved that he is a special talent, and it was a shame to see his season end early due to a back injury.
The hope was that the 18-year-old would be back in time for pre-season, only for Miley to suffer another injury.
The midfielder broke his metatarsal, which resulted in him missing all of pre-season. Miley is still not back yet, and the initial diagnosis was that he would be out of action until October.

What is now being said about Lewis Miley’s Newcastle United return
After missing the first four games of the season, it will still be a few more weeks until we see Miley in action again.
However, the Athletic’s Chris Waugh has provided an update on Miley’s recovery, and has shared what he has been told about the teenager’s injury status.
In a Q&A for the Athletic, Waugh wrote: “I asked some sources about Miley this week and they seemed pleased with the 18-year-old’s progress.”
The journalist also notes that Newcastle want to be careful with Miley, given how much football he played last season. In total, Miley made 26 senior appearances, which is a lot for a player who is so young.
With that in mind, the Athletic state that Miley could return around the time of the October international break. If that is the case, it would mean he misses five more games.
Minutes will be harder to come by for Miley
When Newcastle United needed Miley last season, he stepped up. At the age of 17, he played with maturity beyond his years.
He showcased his potential in a big way, and it is going to be exciting to see how he develops over the coming years.
However, it will be much tougher for Miley to play regularly this season. Sandro Tonali is back from suspension, while Joelinton and Joe Willock are over their long-term injury woes.
Miley is not expected to play as much for Newcastle this season, but he will still benefit from being in and around the first team and training alongside the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
