News on Wednesday night broke that Everton had made an offer for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.
The Toon midfielder has suddenly emerged as a sub plot in Newcastle’s interest in Lucas Digne, with Rafa Benitez reportedly keen to bring Longstaff to Goodison Park.
It was later claimed by the Shields Gazette’s Miles Starforth that the Magpies had rejected Everton’s offer.
Now details have emerged about Everton’s proposal, and it’s no surprise that Amanda Staveley and co said no.

Everton’s Sean Longstaff offer was embarrassing
According to the Daily Mail, Everton offered a fee in the region of £1million for the 24-year-old. Just £1million.
Yes, his contract does expire in the summer. But that is an outrageously low fee for a Premier League midfielder whose best years are surely ahead of him.
Even if Newcastle have no long-term plans for Longstaff, they’d be better off keeping him until the summer and losing him for nothing than selling him for just £1million.
The Magpies reportedly want a centre-midfielder this month, and their need has increased following Isaac Hayden’s injury.

Selling Longstaff would make no sense with Hayden ruled out for two months, Jonjo Shelvey boasting a history of fitness woes and Joe Willock struggling for form.
Everton’s £1million offer for Longstaff is simply laughable, and a far cry from two-and-a-half years ago when Newcastle valued him at £50million.
There’s obviously no chance we’ll get a fee like that now, but he’s worth much more than £1million. Newcastle’s owners were absolutely right to turn this offer down.
