Lewis Miley has signed his first ever professional contract with Newcastle United, who have big hopes for the teenager.

Miley celebrated his 17th birthday in style, with Newcastle announcing that he had signed a pro deal with the club he has been with since the age of seven.

10 years on and Miley is a pro, and a player who has aspirations of playing for the Magpies in the Premier League. He has been on the fringes this season, regularly training with Eddie Howe’s first-team whilst appearing on the bench for the draw with Bournemouth earlier this year.

The midfielder has made a couple of senior appearances for Newcastle, but only in friendlies. He came off the bench in wins over Al-Hilal and Rayo Vallecano in December 2022.

Miley has a bright future ahead of him, which is why the club have tied him down to a professional contract. And it is reported that there is belief behind the scenes that he is a special talent.

Eddie Howe has Premier League hope for Lewis Miley

According to the Chronicle, Howe and other members of the Newcastle coaching team believe that Miley is going to become a Premier League star if he continues to grow and improve at the current rate that he is right now.

It has already been claimed that Newcastle are mindful of how flexible he is, with Miley capable of playing in multiple positions. That is why they are being very careful with his development, following a similar blueprint to Elliot Anderson.

He is one example of a local lad playing in the Premier League for Newcastle right now. Anderson has enjoyed a breakthrough year, and has really impressed when given the chance. He will have wanted to play more, but Howe has done his best to give him opportunities.

It sounds like Miley will be afforded those same opportunities when the time is right, as Howe is clearly a massive fan of the teenager.

That is excellent news, as it proves that there is a clear path from academy to first-team. Hopefully it is not too long before we see Miley make his competitive debut in a black and white shirt.
