TalkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil has shared what it is that concerns him about one of Newcastle United’s star players this season.
Newcastle are fortunate to have two very talented strikers in Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, but their injury record leaves a lot to be desired.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Brazil claimed that he has been very impressed with what Isak has done over the last 18 months, but that he’s concerned that he can at times be hit or miss.
Newcastle have two of the best strikers in the league
You’d do well to find a team that isn’t called Manchester City with two better strikers who, when fit, can rotate in and our every week and bring something different to the team.
Wilson is more of a physical player whose link-up play in the past has been very good, while Isak is probably the most technically gifted player in the squad and prefers to have the ball at his feet driving at defenders.
While they’re both brilliant at what they do, keeping both of them fit at the same time is proving to be an almost impossible job for Eddie Howe.
This season, the Swedish striker has missed seven games across all competitions due to injury, but it was last year when he missed 15 in total due to a thigh injury that worried Newcastle fans.
On the show, Gabby Agbonlahor said: “Callum Wilson’s a talented striker, very good, but himself and Isak are injured quite a lot.
“Ones injured, the other ones fit and then they swap over.”
Brazil then added: “He’s a mystery for me Isak. When he’s on form, he’s elegant, flows, he’s a proper athlete isn’t he and he’s got strength and he can finish.
“And then other times he drifts in and out of games, but when he’s on form, he’s fantastic.”

Isak can lead Newcastle to the top
At just 24-years-old Isak still has plenty of room to grow and has already proven to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League and maybe even the world.
Everyone in football is looking for a 15-20 goal a season striker who can take them to the next level but they don’t grow on trees and the ones that do exist aren’t exactly cheap.
If Isak can stay healthy and play the majority of games in a season, there’s no reason at all why he can’t hit the 20 goal mark, he’s already bagged nine in 15 games this season so he’s pretty much on track.
Looking to the future, the £63m attacker’s style of play and his natural ability make him a very valuable asset to have especially in the Champions League where he can really excel. Had Isak not gone off injured early against Dortmund at St James’ Park then Newcastle’s next few fixtures could look very different.
