Newcastle United want to become one of the best teams in the world, and to do that you need world class players.
Eddie Howe believes he already has one player who is exactly that, with the Newcastle United manager admitting earlier this year that he thinks Bruno Guimaraes deserves that illustrious tag.
The 26-year-old truly is an elite midfielder, which is why fans are so eager for June to pass without anyone activating his £100million release clause. There have been fears that Manchester City could sign him, but it has been claimed that they do not think he is worth that amount.
But for Newcastle to compete at the top, they need more than just one world class player.
Henrik Larsson hails Alexander Isak for his ‘potential’
Luckily for the Magpies, former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson believes that another Toon player is well on his way to being recognised as ‘world class’.
The player in question is his fellow Swede Alexander Isak, who is on the back of the best season of his career. He scored 25 goals for Newcastle, 21 of which came in the Premier League.

And Larsson has told the Athletic that he thinks the 24-year-old has the potential to eventually be considered as one of the best around.
“It is clear that Alex has the potential to be world class,” he said.
“But it is always harder for the national team, just look at the players around him. There is so much more to come for Sweden, and that’s exciting.”

Newcastle defender thinks Alexander Isak is already world class
While Larsson’s sentiment is very exciting, it is actually one that Newcastle United defender Dan Burn disagrees with. He recently stated that he thinks Isak is already world class, labelling the forward as his Toon player of the season.
He is certainly worthy of that honour, shining in black and white alongside the likes of Anthony Gordon and Bruno during the 2023/24 campaign.
Isak was irresistible at times, and the calibre of goals he scored was outrageous. He has well and truly proved why Newcastle were right to make him their most expensive player ever, and Larsson clearly believes that there is scope for him to get better.
How Isak can go to the next level
That will come with consistency. While Isak is on the back of his best year ever, he now needs to replicate it. To be considered world class and one of the best strikers in the game, which Newcastle think he is capable of, he needs to be scoring 20 goals season after season.
Eddie Howe will hope he does just that next season, as Newcastle set their sights on a return to the Champions League. To do so, they will need to start the season strongly, and the Magpies have the chance to do exactly that following confirmation of the 2024/25 Premier League fixtures.
