Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has backed his club’s decision to sell Lewis Hall, but still believes Newcastle United have got a player with a very bright future.
Newcastle snapped up one of Chelsea‘s brightest youngsters during the summer, with Lewis Hall swapping Stamford Bridge for St James’ Park.
The 19-year-old moved to Tyneside on an initial loan deal, but it will become a permanent transfer worth £28million in the summer of 2024.
The Magpies are investing heavily in Hall, and he is a player who the club have extremely high hopes for.
We have only seen flashes of his talent so far. That performance at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup was sensational, while Eddie Howe has been pleased with the left-back’s efforts in training.
Hall is a player with a lot of potential, but Pochettino has no regrets about him leaving Chelsea during the summer.
Pochettino’s kind words for Newcastle defender Lewis Hall
Ahead of Newcastle vs Chelsea, Pochettino spoke to the media. He was asked about Chelsea’s decision to let Hall leave and sign for Newcastle.
“The player and the club took the best decision for both sides,” he told West London Sport.
“He was unlucky that he could not play (more), but he has a good future and I hope he can settle well there.”

Hall can’t play for Newcastle against Chelsea
Pochettino has been very nice about Hall, but he does not need to worry about him this weekend.
That is because, as Hall is still only on loan, he is ineligible to play against his parent club. It will be the same situation at Stamford Bridge next month when the two sides meet again in the Carabao Cup quarter final.
It is a blow for Eddie Howe, as his squad is already stretched enough as it is due to injury.
Hall will have to watch from the stands, but it is only for this season. Come the 2024/25 campaign and beyond, he will be able to play against the Blues and show them exactly what they are missing.
There was reportedly some disappointment when Chelsea allowed Hall to sign for Newcastle, and that will only intensify when he reaches his potential – which Pochettino expects him to do.
