Harvey Barnes shares what he’s already noticed about Newcastle boss Eddie Howe

Harvey Barnes has been a Newcastle United player for less than a week, but he is already buying into Eddie Howe’s ethos.

The 25-year-old’s arrival was announced on Sunday, then hours later he made his Toon debut in the 3-3 draw with Aston Villa.

Howe was pleased with what he saw from Barnes, and will be keen to give him more minutes in the next friendly against Chelsea. We are hoping that the latest signing is given his first start for the club.

Whether he starts or not, Barnes is doing his best to settle into life as a Newcastle United player. He joins a harmonious squad on the back of an excellent season, and he is starting to realise exactly why something so special is happening on Tyneside.

Harvey Barnes already wants to ‘give that extra yard’ for Eddie Howe

Barnes has spoke to the Daily Mail during Newcastle’s trip to America, and shared something he has already discovered about Howe so soon after joining the club.

“I can tell from working with the manager, just for a couple of days, that he’s the kind of manager you really want to give that extra yard for,” he said.

“I saw that from the outside, every time they win games, they were all in the changing room together for a picture – not just the players, but the staff – and it looks like a great environment.

“Everybody wins together, loses together and I think that will come from the gaffer.”

Barnes gets it already

Howe’s players are prepared to go the extra mile. They work tirelessly for their manager, and it guided Newcastle to an exceptional season last time out.

It is going to be very difficult to replicate last season’s success, and it is important that any new addition buys into what the club are doing.

Luckily, we have got that in Barnes. He can see why the likes of Sean Longstaff and Joelinton run through brick walls for Howe, and it sounds like he is prepared to do the same.

That should enable him to be a hit on Tyneside, but it is goals and assists that will truly define how successful he is in black and white.

Given his record for Leicester City, that should not be a problem. Barnes looks perfectly suited to this Newcastle team, and is already prepared to follow his new manager into battle.
