Newcastle United reportedly considered moving for Joachim Low to replace Steve Bruce, according to Guillem Balague.
It has been a frantic day today with regards to who will be the next manager at St. James’ Park.
There was heavy speculation that Unai Emery was set to become the Magpies’ new head coach.
But he has today put out a statement saying he is staying at Villarreal.
The development has been cause for big frustration for the Newcastle faithful. Some have blamed Lee Charnley for the failure to land him.
People are starting to get agitated that no one has come in yet, with the team really struggling right now.
Following the Emery debacle, names like Eddie Howe and Paulo Fonseca are again doing the rounds.
Guillem Balague made an interesting claim on Twitter, as he provided information about why Emery wasn’t going to head for Newcastle.
The journalist claims the club actually had interest in Joachim Low at one point. That is a name that hasn’t really been mentioned until now.
Low has been out of work since leaving his position as head coach of the German national team after Euro 2020.
The 61-year-old had been in that role for 15 years. He arguably overstayed his welcome, but he had a largely successful time, winning the World Cup back in 2014.
Joachim Low would have been a major risk for Newcastle anyway
It is an interesting claim from Balague, but one not too many Newcastle fans will be too cut up about.
Although he had a 63% win-rate, Low struggled as Germany manager in the last years of his tenure.
And they have also been a nation with really talented players.
Low obviously hasn’t been in club management for over 15 years, so it really would have been a majorly risky appointment.
