Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has put Arsenal fan Piers Morgan in his place after the Magpies’ 1-0 win on Saturday night.
Eddie Howe’s side were able to beat the Gunners thanks to a goal from Anthony Gordon, but it was a match that was littered with controversy.
It started with Kai Havertz’s dangerous lunge on Sean Longstaff, as he scythed down the Newcastle midfielder. The challenge enraged Howe’s players, which led to bookings for Fabian Schar, Gordon and Longstaff. Yes, somehow we ended the incident worse off…
There was also an incident involving Bruno Guimaraes and Jorginho, with Newcastle’s talisman seen catching the Italy international in the back of the head with his arm. It was stupid from Bruno, who was lucky to avoid punishment.
Newcastle goal left Mikel Arteta furious
But the major controversy came when Gordon scored the only goal of the game. After the ball hit the back of the net, there were three different VAR checks to decide whether it should have stood. There were appeals that the ball was out in the buildup, that Gabriel had been fouled in the box and that Gordon was offside.
However, VAR decided there was no issue and gave the goal. It led to an embarrassing press-conference from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who proved himself to be a very sore loser.

Jamie Reuben responds after Arsenal fan Piers Morgan’s complaint
There was anger from everyone associated with Arsenal, including famous fan Piers Morgan. He took to X to sound his displeasure at Newcastle’s goal being given.
He wrote: “So we all just watched the ball go out of play, then Gabriel get fouled, and then a clear offside. But VAR still gave Newcastle the goal. Just pathetic.”
Morgan’s message prompted a reply from Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben.
He responded: “I think we saw the ball not go out , someone onside and Gabriel going down way to easy but again I would say that.”
Arsenal will continue to complain
It will be a while before we hear the end of this one. Arteta’s explosive comments will ensure that the decision remains in the public eye.
But it is good to see Reuben piping up and putting Morgan in his place.
As he says, the ball was definitely not out, and it didn’t look like anyone was offside. The foul is the only bit that is debateable. Arsenal fans will say that Gabriel was pushed by Joelinton, while Newcastle fans will say he went down far too easily.
The debate will rage on – and the Arsenal fans will make sure of that – but the fact remains that the goal stood and Newcastle put Arteta and co in their place. Given the way he and his players go on, it was beautiful to witness.
