Allan Saint-Maximin did not score for Newcastle in their 3-1 win over Everton last night but he still impressed former Magpies goalkeeper Shay Given.
It was a fine victory for Eddie Howe’s side, making it two in a row as well as dragging Everton back into the relegation dogfight.
Speaking on TalkSport Breakfast at 8.15am this morning (Wednesday 09/02), Given hailed Saint-Maximin after another night where he showed what he is capable of.

“He’s reminiscent of another French player who used to play at the club a little bit – David Ginola,” said Given.
“When he gets the ball, you can feel the crowd getting on the edge of their seat or even standing up. It just spreads through the whole stadium.
“He was unplayable last night, he really was. As a defender, I just don’t know what you can do to stop him at times. He really stepped up to the plate and keeping him fit is vital to their survival hopes.
“After the game, he was soaking up the atmosphere. The fans love him up there and he’s a real hero.”

As per WhoScored, he had two shots on targets and laid on three key passes for teammates in the vital win.
As Given says, he gets the crowd going even on nights where he doesn’t score and that will be crucial between now and the end of the season.
Newcastle have given themselves hope and new optimism with their recent results and transfer business and they will hope to carry that momentum on now.
