Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have now predicted who they think will win between Newcastle United and Luton in this weekend’s game.

Newcastle will be very keen to put their Carabao Cup exit against Chelsea behind them with a solid performance and victory over Luton on Saturday.

Luton, however, are no pushover and on this week’s episode of the Stick to Football podcast, Neville and Carragher have suggested that the Hatters could pull off a shock result against Newcastle.

Neville and Carragher predict shock result for Luton

Luton have found life in the Premier League tough so far, winning just two of their first 16 games, but they have also put in some hearty performances against some of the top teams in the league.

What will give them hope is that Newcastle’s away form has been nothing short of atrocious. One win in eight away from St James’ Park ranks Eddie Howe’s team as the 16th worst in the league.

That said, while the Magpies are dealing with a depleted squad and on a poor run of form, they will also be desperate and hungry to secure the win and ease the pressure off of their manager.

The two pundits are not confident in Newcastle’s form at all having lost four of their last five games and have made a bold prediction for Saturday’s game.

On the podcast, Neville said: “They are flat as a pancake Newcastle.”

Carragher then responded: “1-0 Luton.”

Newcastle are starting to feel the pressure

It’s been a very tough few weeks for Newcastle who are now out of one of the domestic cups as well as the Champions League, and a lot of pressure is now building on the team to be successful in the league.

The players must now find that extra bit of energy from somewhere if they are to over come Luton at the weekend, a game which now looks to almost be a must win for Newcastle.

Should they lose at Kenilworth Road, just a couple of weeks before they make the short trip to Sunderland in the FA Cup, it will be more pressure than Howe has to deal with during his reign at Newcastle.
