While Newcastle United are loving Dan Burn, Sven Botman is suffering a Champions League defeat with Lille.
The Magpies tried desperately to sign multiple centre-backs during January, but had to wait until 10.45pm on deadline day to complete a deal.
Burn arrived for £13million from Brighton, and his two appearances in a Toon shirt have been exceptional. He was named man of the match on his debut, then followed it up with another solid showing against West Ham.
But the 29-year-old wasn’t Newcastle’s number one defensive target last month. That honour went to Sven Botman.

The Dutchman was PIF’s number one centre-back target in January, and he was reportedly keen on a move to St James’ Park.
Newcastle made multiple bids but couldn’t reach an agreement with Lille, who were set on keeping one of their star players ahead of the Champions League knockout stages.
It was a blow for Eddie Howe’s side, but Burn has came in and done brilliantly.

Sven Botman impresses despite Champions League defeat
Despite not making a permanent move, Botman has been in England this week. His Lille side faced Chelsea last night in the Champions League.
Botman started in defence alongside the veteran Jose Fonte, but was unable to deny Thomas Tuchel’s side. Chelsea won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, and will be feeling confident going into the second leg.
While it was a disappointing night for Lille, Botman did receive some high profile praise.

During the game, Match of the Day host Gary Lineker tweeted: “Not been a great night for Lille but I think Sven Botman looks decent.”
He followed that up with a hint for his beloved Leicester to make a move.
However, his colleague and Toon legend Alan Shearer was quick to subtly remind him that Newcastle are the team that has been chasing Botman.
It seems certain that Botman will leave Lille this summer. And considering how relentlessly they pursued him in January, Newcastle will surely be near the front of the queue for the 22-year-old.
Negotiating shouldn’t be as difficult in the summer – clubs will be more receptive to offers when they have more time to find a replacement.
Lineker might want to see Botman at Leicester, and they could certainly do with him given their form this season, but hopefully we see him in a black and white shirt next season.
The Magpies are reportedly still keen, and will surely make a move if Premier League safety is secured.
