Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has said that Dan Burn was the best Newcastle player by a mile today.
The central defender made his debut in the win over Aston Villa.
The Magpies claimed another huge three points, thanks to another free-kick from Kieran Trippier.
The England international struck just before half-time, with his effort taking a deflection off Emi Buendia.
Trippier would then go off injured just after half-time, and fans will now anxiously await news on his condition.
Burn started in place of Jamaal Lascelles, who was apparently feeling unwell in the lead up to the game.
He started next to Fabian Schar in the middle, with Javier Manquillo replacing the ineligible Matt Targett.
Burn put in a colossal display for his new team, making several clearances and also winning possession back on a number of occasions.
On commentary, Gary Neville was especially impressed with Burn’s performance.
He said of him: “He’s been the best Newcastle player by a mile, Dan Burn.
“He’s brought real composure at the back. He’s leading that line. All his work has been really good.”
Neville went on to vote Burn as the man-of-the-match ‘without a shadow of a doubt’.
A very promising debut from Dan Burn
Newcastle had to do a lot of defending today, especially in the second-half as Villa chased the equaliser.
But Burn was solid in everything he did, and the backline really shone again.
Without doubt, Eddie Howe now has a huge selection dilemma on his hands.
Burn came in for Lascelles, who had been brilliant against Everton.
But Burn performed just as well today, and Schar was also really good again. It is certainly a healthy position to be in when the competition is high.
