Despite the looming Carabao Cup final, Newcastle United are still keeping a close eye on the progress of Garang Kuol.
Newcastle sent Kuol on loan to Hearts last month, shortly after his arrival on Tyneside. He joined the Scottish side on a deal until the end of the season, as he looks to continue his development.
The Magpies believe they have signed a future superstar in Kuol, and fended off interest from some major clubs to land the 18-year-old.
A move to Hearts made sense, as it gave the teenager the opportunity to play alongside some fellow Australians who he already knows. Those home comforts will be serving him well north of the border.
But Kuol’s career is yet to really take off in Edinburgh. He has made five appearances for the Jam Tarts, but is yet to score or provide an assist. He has only started once, when he strangely played in centre-midfield against Rangers.

Garang Kuol encouraged by Newcastle support
While Kuol is yet to burst into life in Hearts colours, he is still receiving constant support from Tyneside. The forward has spoke to the Edinburgh Evening News, and was asked if Newcastle are keeping an eye on his progress.
“Yeah, of course,” Kuol said.
“You get contact from the guys down there saying ‘good luck’ and stuff like that. It’s good and encouraging that they are keeping an eye on what I’m doing.”
Difficult loan move for Kuol
Kuol has not played a huge amount of football since joining Hearts. In total, he has played 164 minutes so far.
That does’t sound like a lot, but we must remember that he is still hugely inexperienced. He hadn’t even started a competitive game when Newcastle agreed to sign him from Central Coast Mariners.
His move to Hearts is just as much about acclimatising to life in the United Kingdom as it is developing as a player. It must be incredibly difficult to move your life across the world at such a young age, which is why it is good that Hearts have so many Australian players.
Newcastle will be watching his progress closely, as the club know they have a future star on their hands. But he needs to be nurtured, and given the right environment to succeed.
It is excellent to hear Kuol confirm that he is in constant contact with people from the club. That will boost his confidence, as he knows he hasn’t been forgotten about since his loan departure.
