It’s been reported that Newcastle United will listen to offers this summer for Allan Saint-Maximin. That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones and what he told Givemesport.com. He joined the Toon back in 2019 for £16.5 million (BBC Sport)
Saint-Maximin has had an up and down second half of the season for Newcastle. Some fans have been frustrated with many of his recent performances. Alan Shearer even criticised his recent performance against Man City last weekend.
What hasn’t helped matters was the Saint-Maximin interview recently. The Frenchman gave where he believes his comments were taken out of context. But Eddie Howe has addressed the issues with the winger, so it’s all water under the bridge.

Selling Saint-Maximin would be a very big mistake from Newcastle
This isn’t the first time it’s been reported that the club want to sell him. But getting rid of Allan Saint-Maximin could be a major error.
Granted it’s been a very up and down season for him. But he’s simply one of the Magpies’ best players on his day. To let him go would be a big mistake.
Saint-Maximin has the tools and I think he just needs time to really find how he fits into Eddie Howe’s system. I think patience and bad patches for players are a part of the game.
Also, letting him go this summer just seems irrational to me. Just because he’s had a rough period, he should be sold? That sounds silly to me.

The upcoming transfer window could well be a busy and exciting one for Newcastle United. Furthermore, it would make a lot of sense to bring in players with extra quality. Giving the likes of Saint-Maximin better players to play around.
In addition, the 25-year-old is clearly committed to the club. He was blown away by the ‘WOR flags’ display done for him against Crystal Palace. Additionally, he signed a new deal in 2020 that keeps him at the club until 2024.
The comments from the Saint-Maximin interview seem as if they were out of context. Plus, it seems it hasn’t caused any fallout between teammates. So I’d be surprised if he was sold in the summer. Considering the talent we know he has, he just needs the time and support to find his feet.
