A former Newcastle United player has been on the move this week, three years after his St James’ Park exit.

DeAndre Yedlin has got himself a new club, after representing the Magpies between 2016 and 2021.

The 30-year-old had been playing for Inter Miami, but he has now joined another MLS club.

It has been officially announced that Yedlin has been traded from Inter Miami to Cincinnati FC. That means that he can no longer call Lionel Messi his teammate, while he does not play alongside Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets or Jordi Alba anymore either.

What happened to DeAndre Yedlin after leaving Newcastle

The American defender was signed for £5million by Rafa Benitez in 2016, and went on to play more than 100 times for the Magpies, scoring three goals. He also played for Newcastle United during Steve Bruce’s tenure. However, he left the club at the beginning of 2021 to join Turkish side Galatasaray.

Yedlin only spent one year in Turkey, before taking his talents back to America. He returned to Major League Soccer after almost 10 years away, signing for David Beckham’s franchise Inter Miami. He put pen to paper over a four-year deal with the MLS club.

The right-back even became Inter Miami captain, and soon got the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi. The greatest of all time joined Beckham’s new team last year, but he soon took the armband off of Yedlin.

Messi replaced the USA international as captain, and now they are no longer teammates. Instead, Yedlin will be plying his trade for Cincinnati FC, where he will play alongside former Chelsea defender Matt Miazga.

Interestingly, Yedlin is not the only former Newcastle player to sign for an MLS club in recent days. Matty Longstaff has finally got himself a new team, taking his talents to Canada to play for Toronto FC, who are managed by North East native John Herdman.
