Former Newcastle United target Olivier Ntcham scored his first goal for new club Swansea this weekend.

The midfielder was released by Celtic this summer, and was linked with a move to St James’ Park.

However, he instead joined Swansea City, and has made three appearances for the Welsh side so far.

Ntcham was a half-time substitute against Luton on Saturday, and had a huge impact off the bench.

The Swans were 3-0 down when Ntcham came on, but he helped start the comeback by setting up Jamie Paterson in the 63rd minute.

Just over 20 minutes later and Ntcham played a part again, scoring a stunning long distance strike to set up a grandstand finish at Kenilworth Road.

Swansea went on to draw 3-3, and Ntcham has been receiving rave reviews for his cameo off the bench.

Ntcham goal shows Newcastle what they could’ve had

Ntcham was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle last January. However, the Magpies brought in Joe Willock instead.

That turned out to be an inspired decision, with Willock scoring eight times in 14 appearances and going on to become a permanent Magpie.

Meanwhile, Ntcham would become a free agent, and was once again linked with Newcastle.

According to the Athletic, the Magpies did consider a move for the Frenchman this summer.

However, he instead joined Swansea in the Championship, and appears to have enjoyed a great start to life at the Liberty Stadium.

His goal on Saturday was out of this world, and a reminder of his talents. Ntcham has had a tough 12 months, enduring a difficult loan spell with Marseille and falling out of favour at Celtic.

Would Ntcham have made a difference at Newcastle? Is he good enough to be a Premier League player? That’s up for debate, but in a summer with just one signing, his arrival probably would have been a welcome one.
