Almost one year to the day that Steve Bruce lost his job at Newcastle United, he has now been sacked by West Brom.
The Baggies drew 0-0 with Luton Town on Saturday, leaving them in 22nd place. A club the size of West Brom should be competing for promotion, but Bruce has managed to turn them into relegation candidates.
Now his tenure is over. West Brom confirmed their decision on Monday morning via an official statement on their website.
They wrote: “The club would like to place on record its thanks to Steve Bruce and his coaching staff for their efforts since arriving in February.”
Bruce is followed out the door by ex-Toon coaches Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence. His son Alex Bruce has also lost his job – a man who Toon fans know very well on social media.

The writing has been on the wall for a while for Bruce, with fans starting to turn on the manager after rotten performance after rotten performance. West Brom have only won one game all season out of 13, which is an appalling record.
Now they have taken the decision to sack him, almost one year after he suffered the same fate as Magpies boss.
Steve Bruce sacked again – maybe he is the problem
Throughout Bruce’s tenure at St James’ Park, pundits were quick to tell Toon fans how good a job he was doing. That was despite the fact the team played awful football, the players weren’t fit enough and the results were shocking.
Bruce’s time at Newcastle was an absolute disaster, and the writing was on the wall for a long time. The only problem was that Mike Ashley didn’t want to pay him off.
Luckily, the change of ownership happened and Bruce was sacked by Newcastle on October 20th 2021. The club haven’t looked back since then, with Eddie Howe working wonders.
Bruce worked wonders himself with the press, ensuring he told everyone how mistreated he was on Tyneside and how he may never manage again.
Then he went back on his word and headed to the Hawthorns. Arguably, he’s been even worse for West Brom. They were Championship playoff contenders when he took over. Now they’re battling relegation.
It’s another embarrassing managerial spell for Bruce, who somehow manages to keep getting work based on his reputation of being a ‘nice bloke’.
Newcastle are happy to see the back of him, and now West Brom fans are too.
