Steve Bruce reportedly in West Brom talks less than four months after Newcastle exit

Steve Bruce could be on the brink of a return to management after leaving Newcastle United last year.

On October 20th 2021, he left St James’ Park by mutual consent. On February 2nd 2021, he could become manager of West Brom.

The Baggies are on the lookout for a new boss after sacking Valerien Ismael. They’re currently fifth in the Championship, looking to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

But is Bruce the man to deliver promotion? According to Sky Sports, he is in advanced negotiations to replace Ismael at the Hawthorns.

Steve Bruce has so much to prove after Newcastle disaster

Despite what the mainstream media tell you, Bruce wasn’t very good as Newcastle United manager. His football was rotten and the results eventually caught up on him.

When he left Newcastle last year, he hadn’t won a single game all season. While neutrals may state that Eddie Howe hasn’t done much better, that probably says more about the state the club was left in by Bruce and previous owner Mike Ashley.

Immediately after his departure, Bruce said in an interview that he might not return to management. “I think this might be my last job,” he told the telegraph 105 days ago.

Then there were shocking claims that he fancied a shot at the Manchester United job…go figure.

That job offer wasn’t forthcoming, and it looks like the 61-year-old will have to settle for a Championship position. That’s despite the fact he apparently did such a wonderful job at St James’ Park. It’s weird no other Premier League clubs have made a move, isn’t it? It’s not like there’s been a shortage of opportunities either.

If West Brom do hire Bruce, their fans should brace themselves for a bumpy ride. The style of football will be appalling, he’ll rile up the local media and talk down about the club. Then when it all goes to pot he’ll blame the fans and it’ll all be your fault.

Newcastle are still trying to get over their Steve Bruce nightmare, but for West Brom it could just be beginning.
