Forget Alexander Isak as Anthony Gordon says £13m star is Newcastle United’s ‘player of the season’

Anthony Gordon has named his Newcastle United player of the season so far, and it is not Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old is playing incredibly well right now, and continued his great form during Newcastle United’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Alexander Isak scored the Magpies’ first goal, as they took control of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever now has 15 goals in all competitions this season, with 14 of those coming in his previous 15 games.

Isak is red hot right now, and is without a doubt the best striker that the Premier League has to offer.

However, Isak is not Newcastle United’s player of the season.

That is according to Anthony Gordon, who told ITV Football on Tuesday night that the honour should go to Dan Burn.

Following Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Arsenal, Gordon was asked about keeping the Gunners at bay.

“Defensively, it’s all about attitude,” he said.

“Our attitude today was unbelievable – to a man.

“But I want to mention Dan Burn. He’s been our player of the season for me. Every game he has been absolutely outstanding.”

Dan Burn under pressure to keep playing well for Newcastle United

The way Gordon took the time to single out Dan Burn for praise was really nice to see, and it sums up what a wonderful person the 23-year-old is.

As for Burn, he truly has been outstanding this season for Newcastle United. Howe says the £13million man has been one of Newcastle’s best signings, and that could not be more true.

The 32-year-old has been a tower of strength at centre-back, and certainly has to be considered as one of the Magpies’ players of the campaign.

It is between Burn, Lewis Hall and Isak, and the giant defender probably edges it.

However, Burn is suddenly under more pressure to maintain this level of performance. That is because Sven Botman is fit once again, and the Dutchman has played very well since his comeback.

That presents Howe with an issue, as Botman is arguably Newcastle’s best centre-back. However, Fabian Schar and Burn have been an exceptional duo for the Magpies this season.

Despite arguably playing the best football of his Toon career, Burn is suddenly fighting to keep his place in the starting XI. However, if there is one thing we know about Dan Burn it is that he is always up for a fight.
