Former Corinthians player Amaral has claimed to Jovem Pan Esportes that Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes should be starting for Brazil at the World Cup.
With the tournament just around the corner, squads will soon need to be finalised as to confirm who will be making the trip to Qatar later this month.
After maintaining his emphatic start to life on Tyneside this term, all eyes have been on the Magpies’ Brazilian star.

Just recently, Brazil manager Tite was spotted at St James’ Park watching the 24-year-old in action ahead of his squad selection. Luckily, he put on a fine display, leading Newcastle to a dominant 4-0 win over Aston Villa.
Taking to an interview, Amaral claimed Guimaraes should be starting for the national team at the upcoming tournament.
“For me, Bruno Guimarães would be the starting defensive midfielder of the Seleção.”
Guimaraes to start for Brazil?
Since making the £40m move to the north-east of England, Guimaraes has excelled on one of the biggest stages in world football.
Only ranked behind fellow World Cup hopeful Kieran Trippier, the midfielder has been crucial to Eddie Howe’s success this season, with the Magpies now sat fourth in the Premier League table.
Having made such a lasting impression, the 24-year-old has been the subject of heavy transfer interest in recent weeks. The likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid have all been reported as monitoring the player’s situation on Tyneside, with the view to a future move.

With the level of teams interested in securing his signature, it is no wonder Amaral thinks Guimaraes should be starting for the Seleção at the World Cup.
However, when looking at Brazil’s last four international friendlies, the Toon man played just 14 minutes of football.
Whilst he certainly deserves to feature later this month, it appears Tite is yet to make a decision on Howe’s star midfielder. Although, this could be good news for Newcastle fans, as less playing time would ensure he returns fit and ready for top-flight action in December.
