Eddie Howe is hopeful that Anthony Gordon hasn’t picked up an injury after coming off for Newcastle United in added time against Man United on Saturday.
The last thing Newcastle need right now is an injury to their star man Anthony Gordon who was substituted after his goalscoring performance against Man United.
In his press conference, Eddie Howe confirmed that there was a worry about a tightness in his hip but that he is still hopeful that it’s nothing to be too concerned about.
Losing Gordon would be devastating for Newcastle
Gordon has arguably been Newcastle’s player of the season so far and took his tally to six goals for the season on Saturday as he helped his team to a third consecutive victory over Man United.
His electric pace and tireless attitude have been key for Newcastle in so many games this season, especially with the likes of Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson picking up injuries in recent months.
Gordon, however, is one injury that Newcastle cannot afford to suffer and it will have been a very worrying moment for Howe when the £45m signing had to come off in the final minutes of Saturday’s game.
After the game, Howe said: “I don’t know at this moment in time. I hope so. He just said he was feeling a tightness in his hip. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.”

Eddie Howe has no backup options
The same 11 players have started the last three games against Chelsea, PSG and Man United and while they have come away with incredible results, this form simply cannot last under the same circumstances.
Newcastle are virtually one injury away from struggling to field a team of players who have any sort of experience or who have played football regularly in the last two years.
As we saw against Man United, the only option Howe had for Gordon was Matt Ritchie who played the final few minutes, but it is not someone who he will want to start during this hectic period for Newcastle.
Other than that, Howe will be looking at academy players to fill in the gaps in the squad, unless Paul Dummett fancies his chances playing in attack.
He will, of course, be hopeful that Sven Botman and Barnes can make their return to the squad very soon, but even then he is unlikely to want to risk reaggravating any injuries.
