Fans are slating what Jame Carragher said about Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon now

Jamie Carragher’s previous comments about Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon have resurfaced online.

Gordon joined Newcastle United in January 2023 from Everton in relatively controversial circumstances.

Newcastle paid around £45million for Gordon, who was not exactly in the favour of the Toffees support upon his departure from Goodison Park.

Everton fans have mocked Gordon at times, particularly after he missed a penalty against them in a 0-0 Premier League draw in October 2024.

Carragher was unhappy with Everton for their treatment of Gordon during that game, with the club’s official social media account poking fun at the England international for having his spot kick saved by Jordan Pickford.

However, fans online are now starting to suggest the Sky Sports pundit was wrong to say that given his recent comments in regard to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Fans slate Jamie Carragher for Anthony Gordon comments

Alexander-Arnold this week announced his intention to leave Liverpool, with many expecting him to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Carragher has been vocal about the subject and while he’s not outright criticised the defender for leaving, he said he was “disappointed” being a local hero was seemingly not enough for the England star.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Monday night, Carragher said he was “sick” of reading “journalists or other people who have got no affiliation to Liverpool telling Liverpool supporters how they should feel.”

Supporters on social media platform X were keen to jump on it.

“That’s the hypocrisy of it all, he told us all we shouldn’t be slagging Gordon off; he told us how to feel about it all,” wrote one fan.

“You were lecturing evertonians on how to feel regarding Anthony Gordon leaving, having a go at us when he missed a pen?,” said another.

One fan added: “The jokes write themselves.”

Real Madrid won’t be signing anyone from Newcastle United this summer

The Spanish giants have also been linked with a move for Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali this summer.

However, it seems they simply cannot afford to sign the Italian international.

Indeed, Real Madrid may not be able to afford Tonali as they are unsure as to what level of funds they’ll have to play with, with the club recently preferring to sign players on a free transfer.

Alexander-Arnold could become the latest high profile arrival on such a deal, after the likes of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Kylian Mbappe.

That is a huge boost to Newcastle. If even Real Madrid cannot afford your players, you must be doing something right.
