Musician James Bay is a Newcastle United fan and has given his view on the survival battle to TalkSPORT.
At 9.41am, Tuesday 02/02, Bay talked up the reasons for optimism in the battle to beat the drop, while also underlining the work which still needs to be done.
Newcastle had a busy deadline day as expected, with Matt Targett and Dan Burn coming in to bolster their backline and Eddie Howe now has a squad capable of beating the drop.

“I don’t want to be too down about it,” said Bay of Newcastle. “I hope we’re not the richest club in the Championship as well as the richest club in the world!
“We’ve still got work to do but I still believe. We needed (a good transfer window) and we got it.
“There’s still a lot of work to do but there’s a lot of hope. The following behind the club is exceptional and there is one massive reason to get it all together and make it work.”

Bay’s passion for the club came through in the interview at other times when he was talking about the glory days and Alan Shearer being the reason he became a fan in the first place.
He is right; there is now an awful lot of optimism around the club but also a lot of work to do to survive in a dogfight there it looks like three teams from four will go down.
Newcastle are next in action at home to Everton on Tuesday, and they will be in buoyant mood after bringing in Frank Lampard, Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli.
