According to reports, former Newcastle United striker Facundo Ferreyra is set to join CFR Cluj.
That’s according to Romanian website Pro Sport, who claim the 30-year-old has reached an agreement with the Europa Conference League side.
There were recently claims that Ferreyra could be on his way back to England.
It was reported earlier in the month that Nottingham Forest were in talks to sign the former Magpie. However, Forest have since changed managers and talk of a move to the City Ground went cold.
Now Ferreyra, who is a free agent, appears to have found himself a new club.
He’ll be playing in the Romanian top flight, where Cluj are top after 10 games. They’re currently managed by former Chelsea player Dan Petrescu.
Ferreyra is a name that Newcastle fans will wish they could forget.
He joined the Magpies on loan in 2014 from Shakhtar Donetsk, with a view to a £6million permanent deal.
Of course, that didn’t happen. Ferreyra never even featured for the Magpies. He wasn’t picked by Alan Pardew or John Carver.
By the end of the 2014/15 season, Newcastle had narrowly avoided relegation and Ferreyra returned to Shakhtar without breaking sweat.
It was one of the strangest deals in Newcastle’s recent history.
It would’ve been interesting to see Ferreyra at Forest and see if his second spell in England went better than his first. But instead he’s heading to Romania, where he has a good shot at winning some silverware.
