Fabian Schar picked up his fourth yellow card of the season during Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Newcastle United put on a near-flawless display against the Gunners at St James’ Park, with Mikel Arteta’s side limited to just one shot on target throughout 90 minutes.

Eddie Howe got his team selection spot on and Alexander Isak extended his scoring streak with a towering header which proved to be the winner.

Newcastle’s defence were superb throughout with Fabian Schar at the heart of the backline. Arsenal had scored 17 goals in nine games ahead of their trip to Tyneside but looked toothless on Saturday afternoon.

The only stain on Schar’s performance was the yellow card he picked up in the first half for kicking the ball away.

Fabian Schar and Newcastle duo at risk of suspension

Schar’s caution against Arsenal was his fourth of the season, which means he is one away from receiving a match suspension.

The Premier League has published a list of all top-flight players at risk of facing a suspension, and Schar is joined by Newcastle teammates Joelinton and Dan Burn.

If any of them receive another yellow card before gameweek 19, they will receive a one-match ban.

Schar was sent off against Southampton just 28 minutes into Newcastle’s Premier League so has already served a suspension earlier this season.

Newcastle had to play without Schar against Bournemouth and Tottenham, where Eddie Howe’s side picked up four points.

Schar has been Newcastle’s most important player this season and would be a huge miss, especially with a busy run of fixtures coming up.

Newcastle United’s upcoming fixtures

Newcastle have a busy fixture list on the horizon after the November international break.

Up next for the Magpies is a very difficult trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, who have upset the odds to climb to third in the Premier League table.

After that, the Premier League prepares to begin its busy winter schedule, which for Newcastle starts with a visit from West Ham, followed by a trip to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool, Brentford and Leicester City then follow that up. Howe will not want any of his key players suspended for the busy run-in.
