Fabian Schar will be fit for Newcastle United’s midweek game against Everton.
That’s according to the man himself, who told NUFC TV ‘don’t worry’ when asked if his battling performance against Manchester United could force him to miss Wednesday night’s fixture.
Schar was exceptional in the Magpies’ 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, and was one of Eddie Howe’s best players. The Switzerland international was solid alongside Sven Botman, and they both played crucial roles in winning Newcastle a point.
But Schar’s efforts came at a price. He received treatment from the Newcastle physios on multiple occasions, and was eventually forced off late on.
The 30-year-old was taken off in the 91st minute and replaced by captain Jamaal Lascelles. It was a necessary change by the Magpies, but Schar is not concerned about his fitness ahead of the game versus Frank Lampard’s Everton.

Fabian Schar on his fitness for Everton
After the game, Schar spoke to NUFC TV. He was asked whether or not he will be available for Wednesday’s game against the Toffees.
“Yeah, it’s going to be fine,” he said.
“Don’t worry. I obviously didn’t want to come off but at the point when you can’t really walk anymore, you probably have to say it’s better if someone else who’s 100% comes in. But it’s going to be fine.”
Schar will be keen to continue impressive form
Having played so well at Old Trafford, Schar will be keen to keep the momentum going. The centre-back has almost been an ever-present for the Magpies this season. He has started all but one game, sitting out the 2-1 loss to Liverpool.
Schar is enjoying an excellent campaign, and appears to be striking up a good partnership with Botman. They will want to continue their partnership on Wednesday underneath the floodlights at St James’ Park.
But while Schar is adamant he will be fit for the game, there are no guarantees that he will start. Howe may be keen to shuffle his pack with games coming thick and fast.
After Everton on Wednesday, Newcastle head to Spurs on Sunday. With three games in a week, there is a chance Howe could rotate and bring Lascelles in for his second start of the season at some point.
But if Howe does make that change, it appears it will be tactical rather than enforced.
