Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has delivered an interesting verdict on St James’ Park, the home of Newcastle United.
While Newcastle United could one day move to a new stadium, St James’ Park is undoubtedly one of the most iconic grounds in English football.

Eddie Howe has largely made it a fortress again during his time at the club, delivering some fantastic nights since his appointment in 2021.
At its best, St James’ is a cauldron of noise. Anyone who doubts that would be wise to watch Newcastle United vs Liverpool on Monday night, when the fans will no doubt be delivering a response to all the drama off the field involving the two clubs this summer.
Seagulls boss Hurzeler was seriously impressed by St James’ during his two visits last season, but not for the reason Toon fans might expect.

Fabian Hurzeler loved hearing the Brighton fans at St James’ Park
The South Coast side won at St James’ twice last season.
They beat Howe’s side 1-0 in the Premier League back in October 2024 before knocking Newcastle out of the FA Cup in March.
On Saturday, Brighton released a video on their X channel in which the club’s media team asked various players and staff members for their favourite stadium in the world.
Hurzeler first selected Liverpool’s famous Anfield before saying: “St James’ Park, Newcastle.
“I think that’s a huge stadium. I also like our away fans. So hearing our away fans, always is really nice.
“I think that’s the important thing.
When asked about Danny Welbeck’s winner in the FA Cup last season, Hurzeler added: “That was a nice moment.”
When Newcastle United could leave St James’ Park
It would be a great shame to see Newcastle move to a new ground, even if it would bring obvious commercial benefits.
St James’ has been Newcastle’s home for 133 years, so generations upon generations of supporters have a deep emotional connection with the ground.
Still, Newcastle could build a new stadium by 2030. It could be located in Leazes Park, although little more is known about the potential plans.
Whatever decision owners PIF make about a new stadium will likely cause a huge amount of discussion among the fanbase.
