It is going to cost Manchester United a lot of money to poach Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United.
The Magpies look set to lose their sporting director, with Man United stepping up their interest in Dan Ashworth.
The 52-year-old is interested in making the move to Old Trafford, despite only starting his job at Newcastle less than two years ago.
But a bigger opportunity has come Ashworth’s way, with Man United set to hire a hugely respected figure in English football to lead their planned resurgence.
However, it is going to cost them a lot of money in compensation, and HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about how much he has heard the Red Devils are going to have to pay Newcastle.
How much Newcastle will get in compensation for Dan Ashworth
There have been multiple reports stating that Manchester United will have to pay £6million in compensation to get Ashworth from Newcastle United, which is also what Bailey believes to be true.
“That’s what I’m told [£6million compensation],” he said.
“It’s a lot of money for someone off-field. That’s the figure that has been put forward and not denied by Newcastle.”
When Dan Ashworth could start at Manchester United
The other issue is when Ashworth starts his new job at Man United. He may have to go on gardening leave before starting the role, which could end up costing the Red Devils even more money.
Ideally, Man United probably want Ashworth to start straight away, but Bailey does not expect that to happen.
“I’d be surprised if Newcastle allowed him to leave this season.
“It might help on the balance sheet, but I think Newcastle will be happy for it to happen from July 1st.”
