‘Excellent’ player suggests he’s happy he never left, after links with Newcastle

While the recruitment is what has made Newcastle United such a success during the PIF era, that’s not to say the club land every player they go for.

Indeed, such are the delicate nature of football transfers at times, it would be unrealistic to imagine Newcastle landing 100% of their targets.

There is simply too much competition around the marketplace for that to happen.

Newcastle are now looking to sign a higher calibre of player, invariably meaning other top clubs in Europe will be rivalling the club for such services.

Which brings us to Adrien Rabiot.

The 28-year-old was reportedly of interest to the Magpies during the summer window and the links have continued since.

Still, the Frenchman has now broken his silence over his long-future.

Newcastle transfer news: Rabiot happy with Juventus decision

Indeed, speaking to Telefoot, the 2022 World Cup finalist claimed he was happy he stayed with Juve over the course of the summer.

Still, long-term, he certainly did not rule out the prospect of a move away.

“This is a club where I am happy and we are having a very good season,” he said.

“Staying at a team I knew very well, in the season going into the European Championship, seemed the best option. The club has faith in me.

“We’ll see later on about a renewal, but in any case I am very happy with my situation at the club and in the France squad.”

Opinion: Approach Rabiot with caution

It would certainly be understandable if Newcastle were to make another move for Rabiot, who will see his contract expire at Juventus this summer.

A player with his kind of experience going on a free is always likely to appeal to big clubs. Indeed, Barcelona manager Xavi has previously hailed him as “excellent”, underlining just how he’s seen amongst the elite.

Still, Rabiot will almost certainly have huge interest from elsewhere, amid links with the likes of Manchester United.

In a commanding bargaining position if he were to be a free agent, Newcastle cannot afford to get drawn into a bidding war given FFP constraints.

Approach this one with caution.
