Former Newcastle United midfielder Dan Barlaser celebrated winning the Football League Trophy with Rotherham United in hilarious style.

The ex-Toon youngster’s side won 3-2 against Sutton United after the game went to extra-time. Following the end of the game, Barlaser was filmed dancing around the dressing room.

Barlaser joined permanently back in 2020 after spending a season on loan previously. He’s impressed in League One, proving to be one of Rotherham’s stand out players.

Barlaser has found his level since leaving Newcastle

It clearly wasn’t meant to be for the 25-year-old. But at Rotherham, he’s proving to be a key player for them. Barlaser occupies a central midfield role, often as a holding midfielder.

When was first on the books at Newcastle, he was a winger. But over time moved more centrally across the midfield. Furthermore, he’s been cited as one of the best midfielders in all of League One.

The Millers are pushing for promotion into the Championship. Currently, they’re top of the league but Wigan and MK Dons are hot on their heels in 2nd and 3rd place.

Barlaser will want to prove that he can take that next step up. The last time he played in that league he found it difficult. But with more experience under his belt, he’ll have much more confidence. Additionally, he’s still got many years of his career left. So there’s a lot of time for him to improve on his game.

Another familiar face is also part of Rotherham’s team. Shane Ferguson also plays for them, he joined in the summer of 2021. He joined Millwall permanently after leaving Newcastle in 2016 until he joined the Millers.

Ferguson much like Barlaser has found himself being a consistent starter for Rotherham. Some Newcastle fans will be proud to see them achieve success elsewhere despite it not working out for them on Tyneside.
