Newcastle United are trying harder than ever to create their own stars, while Eddie Howe’s senior team is littered with Geordies.
Sean Longstaff is currently the main man in midfield, while Elliot Anderson is playing his most consistent football ever at senior level.
Elsewhere, Dan Burn is continuing to shine in defence, while Paul Dummett reminded fans what he is capable of in the recent win over Manchester City.
And on that night, a 17-year-old Lewis Miley started his first ever senior game. The teenager has earned Eddie Howe’s trust, and is going to go from strength to strength in black and white.
The impact he has already had at such a young age is incredible, and the exciting thing is that he is only going to get better.

Newcastle have a genuine wonderkid on their books, and he is a player who is inspiring those around him to raise their game and make the step up to senior level.
Cathal Heffernan looking to Lewis Miley for inspiration at Newcastle
That is the view of Cathal Heffernan, who signed for the Magpies this summer. The 18-year-old has spoke to the club’s official website, and discussed the influence that Miley has on those around him.
“It was brilliant to see Lewis make his full debut,” he said.
“Since moving here, I’ve been lucky enough to speak to him a lot and he’s a really nice guy. Everyone is delighted for him that he has kicked on and has now made his first professional start.
“It gives everyone at the academy that bit of hope. He’s still so young and I think it’ll inspire a lot of people at the academy to work that little bit harder to try and break into the first-team. It’s unreal what he is doing at the moment.
“I think he deserves it for all the work he has put in and I think it’s only the start for him because I think he has so much in him. Hopefully, he has a really good season and kicks on further.”

Miley leading the way for Newcastle’s youth
As Heffernan says, it must be so encouraging seeing Miley get chances in the Newcastle first-team. He was a star during pre-season, and he was rewarded with a first ever senior start in the Carabao Cup against Manchester City.
It is proof that if you’re good enough, you’re old enough at Newcastle. Howe is going to give young players an opportunity, but only if they deserve it.
Miley absolutely did deserve the chance he got last week, and his rise will serve as a reminder to Newcastle’s other youth prospects that there is a path to the first-team.
That will be the dream for Heffernan, who is set to feature for the Magpies’ Under-19s side in the UEFA Youth League against PSG on Wednesday afternoon.
