Emil Krafth makes interesting claim about his Newcastle future

The future is up in the air for a lot of Newcastle United players this summer, including Emil Krafth.

It is set to be the first summer transfer window since the change of ownership. It will be the first chance the new owners have to make wholesale changes to the squad.

We made a splash in January, with some exciting names arriving. More are expected in the summer, but to do that we need to move other players on.

A lot of Toon players are fighting for their future right now. There are nine games left to prove they still have a role to play at St James’ Park.

Krafth is one of those players, and he’s spoke about his Toon future while on international duty.

Emil Krafth has ‘no idea’ what the future holds for him at Newcastle

The 27-year-old is currently away with Sweden, who take on Poland tonight for a place at the 2022 World Cup.

The defender has spoken to Fotbollskanalen, and was asked about his Newcastle future.

“No idea actually. I focus on being here and now,” he said, as reported by Sport Witness.

“I have a contract with the club and everything else that happens will happen, there is nothing I can influence. I have a contract with Newcastle and if something happens this summer, I will have to take it then.”

Krafth is right to just focus on the rest of the season. The Magpies have nine games left, and Premier League survival still isn’t confirmed. However, it is looking very likely.

The right-back was signed by Steve Bruce in 2019, costing £5million from Amiens. He arrived to compete with Javi Manquillo and DeAndre Yedlin, but failed to prove that he was any better than what we already had.

An ability to play centre-back earned him extra minutes, but Krafth has never really been a fan favourite at St James’ Park.

He’s played a lot more than anticipated since the arrival of Eddie Howe, but that’s largely down to injury.

Krafth has featured in six of the last seven games, and will be hoping he retains his place in the starting XI this weekend. The pressure is on though, with Kieran Trippier’s return looming large.
