Despite a reasonably slow summer in the transfer market thus far, there are reasons to be positive about Newcastle United for the season ahead.
Indeed, surely few would doubt the obvious quality Newcastle boast in their ranks and (all being well) a reduced schedule this time around should lighten the load on the players, potentially leading to fewer injuries.
While more new signings to strengthen the squad would obviously be a boost, that is not easy in the current financial climate. The relative lack of spending in the Premier League as a whole offers an indication of that.
What Howe does have at his disposal, however, is some very talented players.
Alexander Isak, after all, was hailed as a “generational talent” during a remarkable season last time out, one in which he scored 25 times in 40 games.
Seemingly set to stay at the club after links away, it promises to be a huge season for the Sweden international.
Teammate Emil Krafth certainly thinks so.
Emil Krafth says Newcastle have one of the best players in the world
Krafth was speaking after the 4-0 win over Girona at St James’ Park on Friday night. While Isak did not score, he put in a typically strong performance, including one mazy run that sparked interest on social media.

Talking to Keith Downie of Sky Sports, Krafth said of his compatriot: “I expect him to get at least 25 this season. In fact, he got 25 last season, didn’t he? Then I think he’ll get 30!
“He isn’t just one of the best strikers in the Premier League…he’s one of the best in the world!
“Let’s hope he can bang them in again this season…”
Alexander Isak now has support at Newcastle
The best thing about Isak this season is that can he now be afforded a rest. His quality is there for all to see but he has not been without injury complaint during his time at Newcastle.
Clearly, new signing William Osula is a relatively unknown quantity but there is hope he can develop nicely. In theory at least, he can lighten the load on both Isak and Callum Wilson.
Keeping Isak fit and healthy is of the utmost importance for Newcastle.
